With a rich history spanning over 150 years, GSCY serves a diverse population across multiple locations, impacting the lives of approximately 30,000 individuals.
ROLE SUMMARY:
This role is integral to the mission of the YMCA, which is focused on fostering community strength through various programs. The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring safe swimming conditions in the aquatic areas, including the pool and surrounding spaces. This position aims to cultivate a secure and welcoming environment that prioritizes member safety and engagement, adhering to YMCA standards and protocols.
SCHEDULE:
Shifts may include:
- 4:45 AM - 10:00 AM
- 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
- 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
WORK LOCATION:
This position will involve responsibilities across various YMCA facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain vigilant observation of the pool area to ensure safety.
- Address member inquiries and guide them to appropriate program areas.
- Assist with swim instruction and oversee deck activities as needed.
- Be knowledgeable of emergency protocols and respond promptly to incidents.
- Consistently apply safety regulations and maintain accurate records as required.
- Conduct perimeter checks of the pool and perform equipment inspections.
- Monitor pool conditions and perform necessary chemical tests.
- Participate in all required training sessions and staff meetings.
- Foster positive relationships with members and colleagues.
- Adhere to the uniform policy, including wearing designated lifeguard attire.
- Exhibit emotional resilience and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse groups.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Hold certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
- Possess a current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
- Maintain physical and mental readiness in line with certification standards.
- Demonstrate lifeguard competencies as per YMCA guidelines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical demands are representative of those necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to execute all lifeguard responsibilities effectively.
- Capable of hearing distress signals in aquatic settings.
- Maintain alertness without lapses in attention.
- Ability to observe all areas of responsibility effectively.
