About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Guidance and Control Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As a senior member of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead the development of innovative guidance and control solutions for complex autonomous systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply your expertise in guidance and control to solve complex technical problems facing autonomous systems.
  • Steer the research and design of innovative control and guidance algorithms using deep knowledge and understanding of current theory.
  • Evaluate the performance of complex systems using high-fidelity simulations.
  • Lead and mentor teams of guidance, navigation, and control engineers to analyze, design, and implement control solutions.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to identify and solve the most demanding problems facing our programs.
  • Interact directly with sponsors to convey important ideas, present data, and help shape control strategy.
Qualifications
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Have at least ten years of experience in guidance or controls and its application to autonomous systems.
  • Have a strong sense of initiative, creativity, and a passion for learning.
  • Be able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess a Master's degree or PhD in a related technical field.
  • Have experience in project management, mentorship, and leading teams of people.
  • Be a recognized expert in one or more areas of controls theory, including modern and classical methods.
  • Have deep knowledge in an affiliated field such as state estimation, navigation, optimization, AI/ML, or flight testing missile systems.
