Job Title: Juvenile Corrections Officer I

Join the Humboldt County team as a Juvenile Corrections Officer I and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of juvenile detainees. As a member of our Probation Department, you will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring daily activities, enforcing facility rules and safety measures, and providing counseling and support to juveniles and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and monitor daily activities of juvenile detainees, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Enforce facility rules and safety measures, including searching juveniles and their quarters for prohibited possessions or contraband.
  • Provide counseling and support to juveniles and their families, including developing treatment plans and conducting group sessions.
  • Communicate and consult with probation officers, attorneys, families, law enforcement, and social services agencies regarding juveniles.
  • Maintain daily logs and records on participation in programs and activities, and prepare reports on juvenile activities and behavior.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with a minimum of one year of experience working with juveniles in a counseling, intervention, or similar structured setting.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet physical and psychological standards.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and respond to emergency and crisis situations calmly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods used in a juvenile detention facility, including safety and security practices and precautions.
