Ruff Start Rescue is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Director to lead our veterinary team and ensure the highest quality of care for our animals. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in examining, diagnosing, and treating animals to maintain or establish their health and prepare them for adoption.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the quality of care for all animals at Ruff Start Rescue, performing routine surgical and veterinary procedures with excellence.
- Oversee the surgical training of Registered Veterinary Technicians, new DVMs, and DVM students, and ensure they meet industry best practices.
- Provide budgetary oversight of the Vetting Department and implement standardized veterinary practices and protocols.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to optimize veterinary care and expand leadership skills.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and national animal welfare organizations.
- DVM Degree with an active veterinary license in good standing in the State of Minnesota.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DEA license (Ruff Start will pay for the license for our location).
- Demonstrated knowledge or willingness to learn shelter medicine practices and protocols.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Supervisory knowledge, including training methods, motivation, and decision-making techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with public speaking and presentation experience.
- Competitive salary: $110,000+ DOQ.
- Work-life balance with a general schedule of Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM, with no overnights or on-call hours.
- May be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
- Health insurance available for employees on the first of the month following 30 days, with RSR paying 50% of the employee's monthly premium.
- Retirement plan with up to a 3% employer contribution available after 90 days.
- Additional insurance options available, including short-term disability, life insurance, dental insurance, accident insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, critical illness insurance, cancer insurance, and vision insurance.
- PTO, including 10 days in the first year, 15 days in years 1 and 2, 20 days in years 3 and 4, 25 days in years 5 and 6, and 30 days in year 7 and beyond.
- Ruff Start Rescue recognizes seven paid holidays each year, with the option to observe a floating holiday.
