About the Role

Vulcan Industries is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to enhance safety awareness and maintain our exemplary safety record.

The Specialist will oversee all safety and environmental initiatives, which include conducting inspections and audits, identifying hazards, and developing solutions for environmental or safety issues.

Responsibilities
- Conduct and maintain all employee safety training.
- Perform inspections and audits to identify hazards.
- Coordinate and monitor the audit program.
- Maintain records of programs as mandated by law and internal policies.
- Train employees on the use of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Facilitate training on safety and health topics, accident prevention, and incident investigations as necessary.
- Provide monthly reports on safety and environmental data.
- Participate in and lead emergency response efforts, addressing employee Environmental, Health, and Safety concerns.
- Develop a system for tracking and documenting 'near misses' and other safety violations.
- Lead the safety committee and conduct monthly meetings.
- Ensure 'safety talks' are available and up-to-date.
- Document programs by creating, revising, and maintaining work instructions, procedures, and visual aids.
- Support production and operations by being present on the floor and monitoring daily activities.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to identify potential unsafe conditions.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
- 2+ years in a safety leadership role.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Diligence in identifying safety and environmental deficiencies and their root causes.
- Ability to solve complex problems.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Proficient in Excel, with the ability to create advanced spreadsheets.
- Capable of speaking confidently and clearly in front of an audience.
- Strategic thinker.
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Science/Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1 year in an environmental leadership role.
