Job Summary: This role involves assisting in the management of the pastry section, including production, procurement, inventory management, and conducting regular assessments and development of recipes to adhere to required nutritional standards. The Pastry Chef will collaborate with the Executive Baker to organize daily tasks aimed at enhancing productivity and operational efficiency. This position also emphasizes the enforcement of established guidelines and coordination with other food service departments. Building and maintaining positive relationships within the community and among school stakeholders is a key responsibility.

Assist in the preparation and baking of all products as per district menus and directives from the Executive Baker.

Support the review of production schedules and plan daily output of baked goods to fulfill orders.

Guide and instruct bakery staff on approved procedures and standards for product preparation.

Monitor inventory levels and create purchase orders when stock reaches reorder thresholds.

Implement policies and procedures for production in collaboration with administrative personnel to ensure high-quality bakery products and cost-effective operations.

Conduct routine maintenance on bakery equipment as instructed by the Executive Baker and/or established protocols.

Assist in testing new bakery products and district recipes, evaluating costs, and suggesting enhancements.

Collaborate with the Executive Baker to communicate with warehouse and purchasing managers to ensure accurate procurement.

Coordinate taste testing sessions with the Food and Nutrition Services leadership team to ensure quality standards are met.

Help manage food waste and document any losses.

Assist in documenting necessary adjustments to ensure final products meet all specifications.

Update ordering and inventory systems to maintain accuracy as directed.

Reporting Structure: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for this position:
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of experience in food service, catering, cooking, baking, kitchen management, or related fields
  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal formats
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • Self-motivated with a strong attendance record
