Overview:

The Safety and Security Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors within the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities:
  • Safety Officer Role:
    • Identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of assigned incident personnel.
    • Exercise emergency authority to stop unsafe actions at any time.
    • Investigate accidents and incidents, and prepare reports as necessary.
    • Conduct safety analyses and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Determine the need for subject matter experts or technical specialists to advise on or oversee unique safety issues or hazards.
    • Assign and oversee Assistant Safety Officers, technical specialists, and subject matter experts as needed.
  • Security Officer Role:
    • Conduct regular security inspections and patrols to ensure the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors.
    • Act as a liaison between patients and medical staff, providing guidance and direction as needed.
    • Monitor surveillance camera systems and investigate suspicious activity.
    • Ensure only authorized personnel have access to restricted areas.
    • Lead efforts to de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
    • Respond to emergencies and incidents as needed, and liaise with law enforcement and first responders as required.
  • Communications Specialist Role:
    • Receive and respond to incoming radio and telephone inquiries and requests for assistance.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and visitors, and provide clear and concise information as needed.
    • Activate transport teams and relay information concerning patient location and condition to medical crews.
    • Initiate calls to physicians and facilities to relay patient information and prepare for patient arrival.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation, and operate vendor applications as expected.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience as a Safety and/or Security Officer, with healthcare experience preferred.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Training:
    • ICS Safety Officer Training.
    • IAHSS Healthcare Security Industry Training.
