We are seeking a highly skilled Excess Casualty Underwriter to join our team at Great American Insurance Company. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating and managing risk for our clients, ensuring that our policies meet their unique needs and provide the necessary protection.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and assess risk for clients, using independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers to attract and retain profitable business.
- Price business in accordance with company guidelines, taking into account risk quality and compliance within company guidelines.
- Order and screen miscellaneous reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, such as Motor Vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit checks, outside inspections, loss control, etc.
- Administer, apply, and may update underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
- Provide technical advice to lower level associates and other functional areas.
- May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Liberal Arts, Business, or a related discipline.
- Generally 6 to 10 years of related experience; leadership experience a plus.
- May be in the process of obtaining or may have already completed certification in area of expertise; appropriate certifications could include Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS) or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
