About the Role:
Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Radiologist and a Supervisor, the MRI Imaging Specialist performs MRI examinations on both Low and High Field magnets at a technical level that does not require constant oversight of technical details. This role involves executing a variety of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to acquire imaging data for MRI diagnostics. The individual will be accountable for specific areas of the procedures performed, catering to a diverse patient demographic from newborns to the elderly.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or Certifications: Current ARRT certification.
  • Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited ARRT Program.

  • Preferred Licensure or Certifications: Certification in MR.
  • Preferred Educational Background:
  • Preferred Experience: At least two (2) years of MRI experience.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in conducting quality MRI procedures and venipuncture.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with others.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate MRI machinery in accordance with equipment specifications (including low, high, and open magnets, physician workstations, stealth procedures, dry laser, coils, computer analysis, image processing, daily quality control, archiving, and storage to disk).
  • Consistently produce high-quality images that meet departmental standards (including 3D reformatting and reconstruction and MRA).
  • Diagnose processing issues and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Adhere to best practices for MRI safety (i.e., specialized stretchers/wheelchairs/monitors, training of ancillary staff, equipment and safety checks) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain patient records in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Understand the proper use of contrast media (including consent forms, types, quantities, and potential complications).
  • Thoroughly assess patients based on the ordered examination with appropriate documentation (i.e., verifying orders, reviewing previous images, checking lab values when necessary, preparing, screening for possible pregnancy, ensuring MRI checklist is completed, involving Imaging nurse when necessary).
  • Provide patient education relevant to the examination being conducted and document in the patient record.
  • Ensure compliance with RIS usage according to departmental standards (i.e., order, arrival, start, completion, cancellation, recording complications, fluoroscopy time, drug history, repeats, complaints, and transfers), and CPAC procedures when applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including non-technical tasks (i.e., stocking rooms, transporting patients, cleaning cassettes), training new staff and students, special projects, and other responsibilities.
