Hospital Security Coordinator

The Security Officer serves as a crucial resource for information and assistance for patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital environment. It is essential for the officer to maintain a professional, supportive, and positive demeanor when interacting with all internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include executing security protocols, responding to security alerts, and managing emergencies such as fires and disasters (i.e., Disasters Levels I, II, III, and IV, etc.). The primary objective is to safeguard staff, visitors, patients, and property in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Conducts regular patrols of hospital premises to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Manages and monitors individuals exhibiting aggressive behavior.
- Investigates security-related incidents and meticulously documents findings in incident reports.
- Maintains a daily log of activities and events.
- Responsible for securing and accessing various buildings on the hospital grounds.
- Participates as a member of the fire and disaster response teams.
- Enforces the hospital's parking regulations.
- Exhibits a compassionate and professional demeanor when welcoming all visitors.
- Demonstrates proficiency as a member of the security alert team, effectively responding to agitation or violent behavior through verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint when necessary.
- Implements hazardous patient decontamination procedures, identifying risks, selecting appropriate personal protective equipment, setting up decontamination systems, removing contaminated clothing, and managing waste disposal.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Individuals must meet specific physical demands of the role, including the ability to sit for up to eight (8) hours per day, stand for up to eight (8) hours per day, and walk for up to eight (8) hours per day. Frequent handling and firm gripping of equipment is required, with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and maneuvering of objects weighing over 200 pounds with assistance as needed. Additional physical activities may include stooping, bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level. Hearing and vision capabilities must align with the requirements of normal conversation, general vision, color differentiation, and depth perception.
EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or equivalent certification (G.E.D.) is required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in security or related fields, as well as customer service, is preferred.
