Job Summary:
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a highly qualified Instructor, Nursing (Medical Surgical) to join our faculty team at Chabot College in Hayward, California. As a key member of our nursing program, you will be responsible for providing instruction in medical surgical nursing theory and clinical practice, maintaining currency in the field, and working in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction in accordance with established Chabot College approved curriculum and course outlines for medical surgical nursing in theory and clinical practice.
- Maintain currency in the field of medical surgical nursing.
- Ability to work in clinical setting two days per week, days and evening schedule as required.
- Familiarity with simulation techniques for medical surgical scenarios.
- Familiarity with hospital electronic charting requirements.
- Typically be assigned 15 CAH (Article 10 of faculty contract) of lecture, skills and clinical hours of student contact time.
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
- Supervisory experience of students in a clinical setting, and simulation, and skills lab.
- Ability to develop, maintain, and evaluate curriculum and student ability to meet program standards.
- Function as a liaison with clinical facility personnel and other outside agencies to establish and maintain clinical rotations.
- Willingness to participate in professional development, student and other educational activities in accordance with the college policy.
- Develop and maintain, and evaluate curriculum.
- Interact with faculty and staff in areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials.
- Prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations based on nursing program standards.
- Post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
- Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.
- Patient Care or equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited college or university, which includes course in nursing, education or administration of nursing practices.
- Appointment to this position contingent upon approval by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN and l 424(g)
- Completion of at least one year's experience teaching courses related to psychiatric/mental health nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching.
- At least one year's experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.
- Applicant shall hold a valid, active, unencumbered, license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Required to upload a copy of the license front and back.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support card. Required to upload a copy of the signed card, front and back.
- Current immunization records for PPD, Titer reports for MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B. Immunization record for Tdap. N95 mask fit test as required by area hospitals. Covid-19 vaccine and booster as required by area hospitals.
- Knowledge of major theoretical frameworks with preference to having experience and/or familiarity with the application of the Roy Adaptation Model.
Working Conditions:
This position is full-time, tenure track, beginning Spring 2025. Employment will begin on or about January 1, 2025. Must be able to stand for over 8 hours and function as a registered nurse.
