Unit Overview
IU West's Family Maternity Center is designed with family in mind, featuring 14 labor and delivery rooms, recovery & postpartum areas, 2 C-section postpartum rooms, and 2 operating suites. Our team includes maternity nurses, Anesthesia, OB Labor, and Pediatrics Hospitalist available 24/7. The unit averages a significant number of deliveries each month, supported by a diverse staff including RNs, lactation consultants, PCAs, CSTs, and Unit Secretaries.

Nursing Skills Development
On this unit, you will gain valuable nursing skills such as:
- Triage of obstetric patients
- Management of all stages of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care

Qualifications
- An Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- An active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license is required.
- Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program is necessary.
- Basic Life Support certification through the AHA is required, with other advanced Life Support certifications potentially needed based on unit specialty.
