Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Peer Recovery Specialist to contribute to our mission. Our drop-in center serves as a secure, supportive, and understanding environment for the community, and we value individuals who are both collaborative and proactive. The ability to manage a diverse clientele while providing personalized assistance is essential. Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred but not mandatory.

Position Responsibilities:

The primary role involves offering peer support to individuals facing homelessness, housing instability, substance use challenges, and those in recovery at our Safe Haven drop-in center. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and inviting atmosphere in the drop-in center.
  • Assessing and addressing clients' needs and obstacles.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant licensing, funding, and accreditation standards.
  • Engaging in continuous training and participating in agency-wide initiatives.
  • Welcoming clients with unconditional positive regard to foster a trusting relationship.
Resource Access:

Assist clients in connecting with a variety of resources, including but not limited to:

  • Food, clothing, personal hygiene items, and survival essentials.
  • Behavioral health and recovery resources.
  • Emergency shelter options.
  • Benefits and entitlements.
  • Applications for SSI/SSDI/TDI, etc.
  • Housing resources, including applications for apartments and subsidized housing.
  • Education and employment resources.
  • Family support services.
  • Medical providers and legal assistance.
  • Coordination of care with other service providers.
  • Connecting with external community resources.
  • De-escalating situations involving clients in emotional distress.
Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED. A Peer Support Certification is desirable, or the willingness to obtain certification.

Work Environment:

This position is based at the Safe Haven drop-in center, operating full-time with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with some flexibility. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
