About Us

The Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on enhancing the educational opportunities for students of color in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Established over three decades ago, FAME provides need-based scholarships to exceptional African American students, enabling them to access high-quality independent school education. The FAME Scholar Program offers financial assistance and additional enrichment support to African American students from grades 3 to 12 while they attend partner schools. We also provide a variety of supplemental resources, including tutoring, internships, academic enrichment, leadership development, and career awareness workshops.

At FAME, our passion lies in empowering African American youth to become today's student ambassadors and tomorrow's leaders. Our team of educators is committed to fostering educational equity and driving meaningful change.

Ideal Candidate

The Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in the effective implementation of various Scholar programs and provides essential support to FAME's core initiatives. This position serves as the primary contact for 11th and 12th-grade Scholars and their families, addressing academic and college preparation needs, as well as organizing events and enrichment activities. The Program Coordinator will collaborate closely with other FAME leaders and report directly to the Scholar Program Director.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Guidance & Counseling: Assist high school Scholars in maximizing their personal, social, and academic development, ensuring readiness for college and careers.
  2. Program Planning and Development: Collaborate with the Scholar Program Director to define objectives, ensure compliance, and enhance program effectiveness.
  3. Advocacy: Act as an advocate for Scholars within the educational community, providing insights and feedback to various stakeholders.
  4. Assessments: Analyze assessments to identify Scholars' abilities and interests, guiding them towards success.
  5. Professional Standards: Uphold ethical standards and maintain a commitment to professional growth and collaboration.

Compensation and Work Schedule:

  • Annual salary range: $40,000 to $45,000
  • Work schedule: Tuesday to Saturday during the academic year; Monday to Friday during the summer.

Travel Requirements:

  • Regular travel to various schools in the Pittsburgh area is required.
  • Transportation of program materials is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and personal vehicle are essential for this role.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, business administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in education or non-profit organizations focused on youth development is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working with youth from underserved communities.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of academic and college preparatory curricula.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and educational partners.
  • Proficient in data management and program evaluation.
