We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at St. Joseph's Hospital. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with nursing care and surgical services under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and physician/surgeon.
- Utilize quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR.
- Assist the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
- Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
- Assist with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
- Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
- Operate specialty equipment after receiving specific training.
- Assist with transportation and positioning of patients.
- Prepare supplies and equipment for surgical procedures following preference cards.
- Perform equipment checks as assigned.
- Assist with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
- Monitor inventory; order; and restock supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Remove out-of-date items and discard or reprocess following established guidelines.
- Assist with general cleaning duties of the department.
- Assist with clerical work, and record keeping duties including the gathering of indicator data such as frequency of events.
- Prepare and update preference cards and instrument tray lists as directed.
- Assist with the proper recording of patient charges.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Surgical Technology Program and surgical technologist certification required.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- One (1) year of prior scrub experience.

- Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 40-pounds and push/pull heavy loaded carts up to 200 lbs.
- Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.
