Job Title: Library Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Library Specialist to join our team at Glendale Community College. As a key member of the Access Services department, you will provide exceptional customer service and technical support to our library community. Your expertise in circulation services, collection management, and reserves will be essential in maintaining the smooth operation of our library. Additionally, you will work closely with librarians to support the GCC Library Reimagine MakerSpace, performing various tasks at a paraprofessional level. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide customer service and technical support to library patrons at the circulation desk, utilizing an integrated library system.
  • Assist students and staff in utilizing the technology of the GCC Library Reimagine Makerspace, including 3D printing, assisting with student projects, resolving equipment issues, inventory and organization, and staffing of the space.
  • Process, track, and inventory library Reserve materials utilizing an integrated library system, Google Suite, and MS Access Database. Work with librarians and faculty to produce online access for students via LibGuides.
  • Help plan and participate in special projects, social media, and outreach programs; order equipment and office supplies; serve on college/district committees; pursue professional growth; and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • An Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services, such as library information resources, circulation services, and equipment coordination.
  • An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of experience in a library environment, performing various access services tasks such as circulation services, collection maintenance, or reserves.
  • One or more years of experience in a college or academic environment assisting students.
  • Six months or more experience in a makerspace or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience using various makerspace technology and equipment, such as 3D printers & scanners, engravers, VR equipment, Arduino/pi, design software, etc.
  • Experience using technology such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, various internet browsers, and/or office technology (such as printers/copiers, scanners).

Special Working Conditions:
  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations.
  • May require some evenings or weekends.
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
