The Evening Security Officer at The Children's Museum is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while ensuring the safety and security of the museum's facilities, grounds, visitors, staff, and collections. This role involves conducting comprehensive patrols of the premises, performing safety inspections, and assisting in effective crowd management. The officer is expected to uphold the museum's high standards of safety, courtesy, cleanliness, and operational efficiency while maintaining a working knowledge of Control Room functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers exceptional service to guests, staff, and volunteers, enforcing security protocols and visitor policies through effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Aids in reuniting lost individuals.
- Responds to emergency calls from various locations within the museum, providing first aid and CPR as necessary, and collaborating with external agencies during emergencies.
- Conducts regular patrols of the building, grounds, and parking areas, ensuring security measures are followed during opening and closing procedures. Reports on safety checks to prevent vandalism and theft.
- Stays informed about daily museum operations, way-finding, and emergency procedures to provide accurate information.
- Leads emergency evacuation protocols and assists visitors and staff during emergency situations and drills.
- Manages Lost & Found items, coordinating with the Shift Lead to return belongings to their rightful owners.
- Ensures the secure transport of cash and valuables on campus, providing basic vehicle assistance when needed.
- Maintains cross-training in Control Room operations and monitors security systems as required.
- Offers support to other departments as necessary.
- Minimum of six months experience in customer service and familiarity with emergency protocols; security experience is preferred.
- Must be CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed certified or able to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Strong understanding of de-escalation techniques and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of independent work with strong decision-making abilities. Proficiency in computer operations and Microsoft Office is necessary.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overnight shifts is essential.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform extensive work in both indoor and outdoor environments, read documents, view monitors, and observe surroundings.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to project voice and engage in group discussions.
- Physical capability to sit, stand, squat, and kneel for prolonged periods while in uniform.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds and tolerate varying environmental conditions.
