Job Title: Health Unit Coordinator

At UC Health, we strive to provide world-class care to our community and patients from around the world. As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transcribe physician's orders accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain patient medical records, related forms, and documents from admission to discharge
  • Provide communication link for processing information/requests to and from patients, staff, visitors, physicians, and other departments or agencies
  • Assist with ordering and stocking supplies/equipment/forms
  • Facilitate the maintenance of a clean, safe, and organized environment
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; HUC education from college or vocational school preferred
  • 1-2 years equivalent customer service experience
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with Microsoft Software packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and database management
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • BLS certification (if not certified at hire, can receive training during orientation)
Accurate Transcription of Physician's Orders:

Reviewing orders as written, notifying the nurse of any STAT orders, completing the necessary computer order entry and/or requisitions on a timely basis, and forwarding to the appropriate department.

Communication/Clerical:

Able to multitask during periods of high-activity or high-stress, communicates effectively with healthcare providers, utilizes proper phone etiquette, and assists with answering phones.

Chart Responsibilities:

Assembling the charts on all new admissions, performing chart maintenance throughout the shift, promptly adding reports to the chart as needed, and facilitating charts to medical records.

Unit Environment and Unit Accountability:

Performing courier duties as directed by the RN, completing the admission, transfer, discharge log board, and statistical logbooks, and assisting with ordering and stocking supplies/equipment/forms.
