Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide health care services to patients under the supervision of a physician
  • Examine patients and perform comprehensive physical examinations
  • Compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as CT, x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interpret test results for deviations from normal
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and managing infection
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in provision of continuity of care
  • Prescribe, administer, and dispense drugs, controlled substances, and medical devices
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens
  • Create and maintain appropriate patient records
  • Compassionately care for and communicate with patients, family members, co-workers, and other medical professionals



Requirements:

  • 1+ years of experience working as an APC in a tertiary, high-volume hospital emergency department
  • Completion of an accredited physician assistant or nursing practitioner program
  • Current licensure with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice or Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Current ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certification
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks
  • Consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills that result in effective information exchange with patients, patients' families, physicians, professional associates, and other individuals within the system
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsibility, ethical practice, sensitivity to a diverse patient population, and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements



Working Conditions:

APCs work in a hospital emergency department as well as in an acute care clinic. Both settings provide a comfortable, well-lit environment. The position requires long periods of time sitting and standing as well as the ability to regularly lift up to 30 pounds. The environment includes work with a diverse group of patients with various degrees of illness. APCs are supervised by and work with several group physicians to provide care to patients. Schedules can vary according to practice setting, but may include days, nights, and weekends.
