Since its inception, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) has been dedicated to empowering boys and young men through after-school, weekend, and summer initiatives that promote personal growth and development.

BCNY operates two fully equipped clubhouses and a wilderness camp, offering a diverse array of activities and programs designed to engage youth in meaningful ways.

From swimming and robotics to ice skating and theatrical outings, BCNY’s programs are designed to enhance interests and skills, all at no cost to members and their families.

In response to the growing challenges faced by youth in New York City, particularly those affected by homelessness, BCNY is committed to expanding access to its high-quality, free youth programs that create inclusive environments where boys and young men can connect, enjoy themselves, and forge lasting friendships.

As part of this mission, BCNY is also focusing on outreach in the Bronx and Brooklyn, ensuring that local youth can benefit from the same supportive ethos that the organization is renowned for.

Our team, composed of dedicated professionals and an advisory council, has established BCNY as a leader in youth programming, and we invite you to become part of our efforts to support boys and young men throughout their formative years.

BCNY is proactive in maintaining health and safety standards to protect our members and staff. While vaccination against COVID-19 is not mandatory for camp employees, we strongly encourage all staff to be vaccinated and to receive booster shots.

As a Camp Mentor, you will play a vital role in crafting an unforgettable summer experience for BCNY campers. Your responsibilities will include fostering programs and relationships that are rooted in strength and restoration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement youth development principles while engaging with campers through effective communication and relationship-building.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and adapt plans to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of program activities that align with BCNY’s mission and objectives.
  • Uphold high standards of health and safety in all camper activities.
  • Provide daily care and support for each camper, recognizing their individual health needs.
  • Ensure campers receive their medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
  • Be attentive to the needs of campers and staff, assisting with personal or health-related issues as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring proper care and maintenance.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers and staff through your actions and demeanor.
  • Possess the ability to instruct and work with diverse groups of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Demonstrate the physical capability to respond to emergencies and provide first aid when required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification is required or must be obtained upon employment.
  • All staff must be current on required immunizations and provide proof of their MMR as per state regulations.
  • Must submit proof of a health examination and immunization record prior to the start of employment.
  • At least one year of experience working with youth, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Desire and ability to work with children in outdoor environments.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or Mandarin/English are preferred.
