LINUX INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEMS SPECIALIST


SpaceX is in search of a skilled Systems Specialist with extensive expertise and comprehensive experience in Linux-based technologies and application support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Collaborate closely with fellow SpaceX engineers to gather requirements, research, assess, design, implement, and maintain Linux-based/open-source software platforms and associated technologies in a high-caliber environment that caters to the needs of the rigorous SpaceX engineering teams.

Construct robust, high-performance, scalable, and adaptable systems.


Assume significant responsibility for the processes, systems, and tools you develop and oversee; all aimed at supporting the vision of making humanity an interplanetary species.

Propose, justify, and execute enhancements utilizing an established change control methodology.


Engage with a diverse team to conceptualize and deliver innovative solutions and resolve issues promptly and proactively by collaborating with internal business units.

Define, document, and adhere to standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation.

Drive automation and scripting to create solutions for common challenges.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 1 year of experience in IT systems administration OR 3+ years of experience in IT systems administration without a degree.

Proficiency with Linux servers in both physical and virtualized settings.

Experience with scripting and automation languages (e.g., Python).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Expertise in developing repeatable, reliable, and scalable systems architectures, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, performance optimization, monitoring, and metrics collection.


Advanced working knowledge (including the ability to set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) Linux-based and open-source systems and technologies such as Apache, BIND, HAProxy, NGINX, sendmail/postfix, iptables, etc.

Proficient in Linux shell skills (bash scripting, output parsing, etc).

Familiarity with source code and version control tools such as Git and Subversion.


Experience with configuration management (Puppet, Chef, Ansible), provisioning, infrastructure as code, and other DevOps concepts and tools (Vagrant, Docker, etc).

Comfortable operating with mission-critical and sensitive systems, exhibiting a sense of urgency commensurate with the responsibilities.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage with internal/external customers, vendors, management, etc., in both formal and informal contexts.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

IT Systems Specialist:
$85,000.00-$115,000.00/per year


Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX.

You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Additionally, you will have access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks.

You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year.

Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave annually.
