Nuclear Medicine Lead Technologist Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nuclear Medicine Lead Technologist to join our team at Mass General Brigham. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining an efficient utilization of available imaging time and staff coverage daily.

The Lead Technologist will perform clinical and research diagnostic and therapeutic molecular imaging protocols, inclusive of single photon and PET. They will also be responsible for performing diagnostic or attenuation correction Computed Tomography as ordered in conjunction with SPECT/PET exams.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Nuclear Medicine Technology and be registered or eligible for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, medical staff, and other hospital personnel.

The Lead Technologist will be responsible for supervising and instructing various personnel, students, and residents within the department. They will also facilitate the ongoing development of skills of all staff within the Division and work with Clinical Managers to optimize imaging protocols and expedite inpatient and ER imaging requests.

The successful candidate will be required to perform a range of duties, including:

  • Assaying, recording, preparing, and administering radiopharmaceuticals
  • Operating SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging and radiation detection equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information
  • Performing Computed Tomography Imaging (attenuation correction and diagnostic CT) as ordered in conjunction with SPECT and PET exams
  • Explaining exams to patients, taking into consideration physical and emotional needs, and maintaining ethical standards
  • Maintaining effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel
  • Calibrating and verifying the operation of all equipment to be used during the workday
  • Completing paperwork, RIS, and Epic functions as necessary for each patient exam
  • Remaining up to date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment
  • Supervising and teaching Nuclear Medicine Technology students within the department
  • Preparing the equipment, room, and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use
  • Assaying, recording, and disposing of radioactive waste and contamination
  • Assuming responsibility for on-call coverage and remaining flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary

The Lead Technologist will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to frequent interruptions, roles, and work assignments. They will also be required to maintain a positive attitude and a professional appearance at all times.
