The role of a Certified Medical Assistant at Geisinger is to provide direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. As an integral member of the healthcare team, you will work under the direction of the provider to perform clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical tasks, documenting using the electronic medical record, and supporting a safe environment for patients.
In this position, you will also provide administrative and clerical support for the clinic/department, including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. A graduate of an accredited 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program is preferred, and a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assist (RMA) is required. You will be certified by one of the listed governing associations: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA.
Key responsibilities include obtaining and documenting patient information using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record, setting up examination rooms between cases, assisting patients as needed to prepare for visits with providers, taking appropriate measures to ensure patient safety and privacy, and providing direct patient care as directed by providers based on competency and needs of the clinic. You will also complete patient tests and treatments per provider's order according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
Other essential duties include collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, completing associated paperwork accurately and efficiently to expedite laboratory studies, performing receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and functioning of the clinic, documenting in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record, and using the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated. Additionally, you will facilitate timely appointments for patients, complete referrals and pre-authorizations as needed, collect co-payments, and assist with orientation of new personnel under the direction of the provider and/or site lead.
We offer competitive compensation, ranging from $40,000 to $50,000 annually, depending on experience.
