Job Overview

As a Technical Lead - Design Engineering, you will be responsible for technical leadership and management of engineering staff to create innovative firearms and/or accessories which meet product requirements.

This role is responsible for working closely with direct reports, fostering a team-oriented working environment, providing coaching to team members, and supporting other teams and R&D objectives as needed. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10 or more years of engineering experience working in a R&D environment, with 3 or more years in a managerial capacity.

The Technical Lead will be responsible for multiple development programs, ensuring that product requirements are met with robust, cost-effective designs. They will also be responsible for assigning tasks and establishing success criteria, reviewing and approving drawings to ensure applicable standards are met, and exercising sound judgement in assessing the validity of assumptions made.

This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to understand and review complex analyses such as FEA, kinematic and dynamic motion, CFD, and/or heat transfer. The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of ASME Y14.5 standards, including GD&T, and be able to identify drafting errors and less than optimal dimensioning & tolerancing schemes during drawing review.

As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the required analyses for assigned projects are completed, working closely with Chief Engineers, and reviewing and approving test plans to ensure they are logical and thorough. You will also be responsible for the accuracy and completeness of verification testing of all product requirements, and for ensuring products are designed with consideration for ease of manufacturing and inspection.

This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing methods, including machining, metal injection molding, plastic injection molding, stamping/fine blanking, extrusion, forging, and casting, as well as knowledge in material selection, heat treatment and coatings. The ideal candidate will also have practical experience with mechanical assembly and be able to pro-actively define and resolve highly complex problems.
