Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician Senior to join our team at MD Anderson Center. As a Pharmacy Technician Senior, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare investigational doses by reading datasheets, following protocol directions, and documenting thoroughly on investigational cards.
  • Demonstrate strong math skills for pharmacy calculations and manage time efficiently to maintain high productivity.
  • Manage inventory through supply chain and monitor key inventory parameters to evaluate usage and make adjustments as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and document procedures related to receiving, shipping, transfers, returns of inventory, physical counts, and loss prevention.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to acquire and distribute drugs and supplies, communicate drug availability to staff, and maintain inventory security within the pharmacy area.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and safety standards when handling and wasting hazardous drugs, report and document chemotherapy spills, and complete pump assignments, including replenishment, returns, cleaning, and periodic maintenance.
  • Restock, load, unload, and outdate automated dispensing cabinet inventory consistently and accurately, and provide floor stock inventory as needed.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency and problem-solving skills with carousel software, automated dispensing cabinets, and other systems, and successfully complete annual process validations and maintain Tech-Check-Tech certification.
  • Optimize patient care and customer service by fulfilling operational responsibilities, including staffing beyond shift as needed, and flexing schedule across areas and shifts based on operational needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP), with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
  • Preferred: ACPE Sterile Products Certification.
  • Two years pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.
  • Preferred: IV sterile preparation experience, ACPE IV Sterile Products Competency, pharmacy experience training staff, and experience in a leadership role.
