About the Role
The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join our Microbiology team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing complex testing and ensuring the quality, efficiency, and safety of laboratory functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-complexity testing using manual and automated processes, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
- Identify and resolve analytical problems, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure testing procedures are evaluated accurately.
- Review and record quality control, ensuring the acceptability of testing and patient results.
- Respond to clinical and customer concerns, resolving issues in a confidential manner.
- Attend mandatory education and training sessions specific to the department.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
- ASCP certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and analytical procedures.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic computer skills for laboratory use.
- Ability to perform mathematical and statistical operations accurately.
- Knowledge of safety regulations when handling specimens.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to patient needs.
