Phlebotomist - Laboratory Support

The Phlebotomist is responsible for procuring and routing laboratory specimens from outpatient and inpatient collections, maintaining laboratory files, and performing related clerical duties in the laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure and route laboratory specimens from outpatient and inpatient collections.
- Maintain laboratory files and perform related clerical duties.
- Understand age-specific requirements for patients of all ages and demonstrate required competencies.
- Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedures.
- Identify patients and properly label specimen tubes.
- Determine priority of Stat, Routine, and Timed draws and ensure timely transport of all patient specimens to the lab for testing.
- Utilize computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.
- Serve as a receptionist, greeting patients and answering phones as required.
- Perform related laboratory duties, including charting, filing, and maintaining neatness throughout the department.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Phlebotomy program certification preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting desired but not required.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work effectively in high-stress situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in laboratory information systems.
