The Certified Recovery Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering hope and recovery by sharing personal experiences and insights gained through their own recovery journey. This position is dedicated to assisting individuals in recognizing and pursuing their recovery objectives, enhancing their participation in social and recreational activities, and cultivating self-advocacy and wellness management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in treatment planning and assist clients in accessing and maintaining benefits and community resources.
  • Provide care coordination with external providers and connect clients with natural support systems.
  • Deliver crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary ACT team, enhancing clinical skills alongside Mental Health Professionals, psychiatric care providers, Nurses, Substance Use Specialists, Vocational experts, and other Certified Recovery Support Specialists.
  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision focused on emerging and evidence-based practices.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM (with two shifts from 12 PM - 8 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday)

Essential Duties:
  • Provide peer counseling and support to affirm clients' experiences.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to recovery principles.
  • Encourage clients to take ownership of their recovery journey.
  • Act as a mentor to instill hope and empowerment in clients.
  • Assist non-mental health team members in understanding and empathizing with clients' unique experiences.
  • Offer insights from a mental health consumer perspective to the entire team.
  • Promote a team culture that supports client self-determination and rights.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of clients' mental health symptoms and responses to treatment.
  • Facilitate direct clinical services to clients on individual, group, and family levels.
  • Teach symptom-management techniques and support personal growth in managing mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, vocational skills, housing access, financial support, and transportation.
  • Provide side-by-side support to help clients engage in social and leisure activities.
  • Organize and lead social and recreational activities to practice social skills.
  • Attend all scheduled team meetings and complete necessary documentation in an organized manner.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and maintain appropriate professional conduct.
  • Adhere to a consistent work schedule and transport clients within the community as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness and be a current or former consumer of mental health services, demonstrating leadership and advocacy skills with a strong commitment to recovery.
  • Credentialed as a DHS Certified Recovery Support Specialist.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences with 2000 hours of experience working with adults with serious persistent mental illness.
  • Knowledge of forensic evidence-based practices and familiarity with the criminal justice system.
