Job Title: Chief Building Inspector

Join the City of Denton, TX team as a Chief Building Inspector and play a crucial role in ensuring public safety and health through effective building code enforcement.

Job Summary:

The Chief Building Inspector will be responsible for supervising a team of building inspectors, conducting complex inspections, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and train building inspectors to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Conduct complex inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective building code enforcement.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to building code enforcement.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to building inspectors and other staff members.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in building codes and regulations and ensure that staff members are aware of these changes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as construction management or architecture.
  • At least 5 years of experience in building code enforcement or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • ICC certifications in building inspection or a related field.
  • Experience in supervising a team of building inspectors.
