Summary

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

The Superior Court of California, County of San Diego is on the lookout for qualified individuals to fill the role of Senior Accountant.

Position Overview:

The selected candidate will undertake advanced professional accounting responsibilities within an operational accounting unit and will oversee both professional and clerical personnel. This recruitment will establish an eligible list for future Senior Accountant vacancies as they arise.

Key Responsibilities:

A Senior Accountant is tasked with complex accounting functions, which may include cash management, fund accounting, auditing, payroll, tax, or benefits administration. Responsibilities also encompass:
  • Analyzing budgetary, revenue, cost, and other financial records.
  • Providing legislative analysis.
  • Supervising the maintenance of intricate cost and control accounts.
  • Correlating court accounts with records maintained by the County Auditor-Controller.
  • Recommending enhancements to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assisting in the development and improvement of automated fiscal accounting systems.
  • Planning and participating in staff activities, including selection, training, and evaluation.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of:
  • Management principles related to training and supervising staff.
  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) relevant to cash control, cost accounting, and budget processes.
  • Preparation and analysis of financial statements and reconciliation processes.
  • Business law terminology and financial internal controls.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, along with three years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Two years of full-time experience as an Accountant with the Superior Court of California.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in government or public sector accounting.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
