Nurse Extern Student Nurse Position

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Nurse Extern Student Nurse to join our team at Lee's Summit Medical Center. As a Nurse Extern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive environment while pursuing your nursing education.
Job SummaryThe Nurse Extern delivers high-quality patient-centered care by performing a variety of basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will have an important role in the implementation of nursing plans by performing direct and indirect patient care that complies with hospital policies and the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.
Responsibilities- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Document and report observations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and any physical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence.
- Assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients and with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs.
- Provide or assist with non-medicated support care, collection of specimens for diagnostic testing, and preparation of patient for surgery or other procedure.
- Assist with transfers of patients to and from other units/departments and with discharges.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Must be actively enrolled in a Nursing program pursuing LPN, ADN, or BSN.
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience while attending an academic program.
