UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant to join our team in the Mother/Baby Unit. Our lactation services are a key component of our comprehensive care for new mothers and their babies. As a lactation consultant, you will work closely with our team of certified lactation consultants to provide expert care and support to our patients.
Responsibilities- Assessment and Planning: Perform and accurately document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments of patients. Utilize critical thinking skills to develop an appropriate plan of care for each patient.
- Nursing Interventions: Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions based on the completed assessment. Complete accurate and timely documentation of these interventions.
- Care Coordination: Actively coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care with all members of the healthcare team. Share information and observations of the patient and/or patient's family in a manner that advocates for optimal patient care.
- Patient Education: Provide appropriate and timely education to patients, patient's families, significant others, and/or caregivers. Complete accurate and timely documentation of all education provided.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in evaluating data to guide decisions regarding unit/department budget formulation and implementation. Perform peer evaluation to provide constructive feedback to peers regarding performance.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
- Two years of mother/baby and lactation assistant experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NRP from the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Lactation consultant with IBCLC certification
