Mental Health Nurse Job Description

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Mental Health Nurse to join our team at McLean Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Nurse to provide direct patient care and participate in therapeutic milieu. The successful candidate will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and be responsible for assisting patients with their activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and promoting a safe and organized environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing Point of Care testing, and documenting patient information
  • Participate in patient rounds and teams to ensure comprehensive care
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and maintain professional boundaries
  • Identify patient behaviors that contribute to crisis situations and utilize de-escalation techniques
  • Communicate changes in patient status to the Registered Nurse and follow established protocols
  • Participate in planning and implementation of patient groups and activities
  • Assist patients with their activities of daily living, including hygiene and nutrition
  • Escorts and supervises patients on and off ground, maintaining patient safety

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in direct patient care, preferably in a psychiatric setting
  • Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in collaboration with others
  • Basic computer skills to use electronic medical records and other systems
