This key role will be responsible for directing daily news coverage, breaking news, and on-air execution of newscasts. The successful candidate will work closely with producers, anchors, and multimedia journalists to develop strong storytelling skills and unique showcasing in every newscast.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily editorial process and on-air execution of newscasts, ensuring high-quality content and brand consistency.
- Manage the daily operation of the newsroom, guiding coverage across all platforms, including television, digital, and social media.
- Assist with planning, staffing, and training for the News Department, ensuring a well-equipped team to deliver exceptional news coverage.
- Cultivate and mentor staff to elevate writing and storytelling skills, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Direct newsroom operations and schedules, ensuring seamless execution of newscasts and special events.
- Collaborate with producers to ensure quality control and brand touchpoints, maintaining a strong brand identity.
- Work with the News Director and other managers to establish newsroom goals and develop strategies to achieve them.
- Help develop news coverage strategy for the station and digital platforms, staying ahead of the competition.
- Critique newscasts and website content daily, providing constructive feedback to news staff and identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide content for newscasts and website as needed, ensuring a strong online presence.
- Help gather sources and stories for newscasts and multimedia journalists, staying up-to-date on local and national news.
- Take charge of specials, projects, and live events as assigned, demonstrating leadership and expertise.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, with a minimum of years of experience in a television newsroom, including some management experience.
- Strong management, communication, and people skills, with the ability to supervise and interact daily with staff and the community.
- Proven leadership ability, with a track record of success in a fast-paced news environment.
- Creativity and passion for news, with a commitment to delivering high-quality content.
- Knowledge and understanding of using various digital and social platforms, with experience in creating engaging online content.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task in high-stress situations.
- Detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Optional bilingual - Spanish.
