The Nursing Unit Supervisor is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for overseeing patient care, managing clinical staff, and ensuring smooth unit operations.
This role involves supervising a team to guarantee the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care, aligned with the hospital's strategic objectives.
Collaboration with departmental leadership is key, as this position entails overseeing daily operations, including off-shift and weekend management of nursing and support staff.
Key responsibilities include resource management, quality enhancement initiatives, payroll oversight, scheduling, and monitoring patient flow to optimize clinical efficiency.
Additionally, the Nursing Unit Supervisor is tasked with maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, which may involve working alongside staff as needed.
This role supports leadership in upholding standards of excellence and fostering professional growth. Participation in, and potential leadership of, Performance Improvement initiatives within the department is also expected.
Collaboration with the Charge/Resource Nurse is essential for adjusting staffing patterns based on patient care needs, census, and available resources.
- Develops and manages team members, including performance evaluations, promotions, salary recommendations, and disciplinary actions. Oversees staffing schedules and payroll, addressing attendance concerns as necessary.
- Ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory standards through regular rounds, tracers, and audits.
- Assists nursing leadership in addressing patient concerns, monitoring key performance indicators (KPI), and managing compliance issues.
- Effectively communicates departmental decisions and policies to team members and participates in relevant committees.
- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care nursing is required.
