Position Summary: We are seeking an Engineering Analyst who will employ analytical skills and engineering principles to evaluate medium-speed diesel engine systems and components. This role involves utilizing hand calculations, computer-aided engineering (CAE) software, and proprietary tools to address hardware design challenges, conduct failure investigations, and assess concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft comprehensive reports that document analyses and testing methodologies, ensuring clarity and precision.
- Conduct various analyses, including simplified hand calculations for design evaluations and guidance.
- Perform qualification tests for MIL-DTL-901 Shock and MIL-STD-167 Vibration standards.
- Analyze torsional vibrations of engine drivetrains to identify critical speeds and fulfill customer specifications.
- Utilize vibration analysis and other techniques for effective engine troubleshooting.
- Engage in failure analysis and root cause investigations using structured methodologies.
- Execute static and dynamic finite element analysis (FEA) for stress and strain assessments.
- Develop test procedures, assist in test fixture design, and participate in testing to validate analytical results.
- Coordinate external analysis projects and evaluate results for accuracy.
- Maintain a centralized repository of analysis reports and models from both internal and external sources.
- Standardize best-practice analysis guidelines across projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an analytical engineering role, or a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME).
- Experience in dynamics and vibration analysis is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of complex mechanical systems, with a background in engine design or development preferred.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred) and experience with stress analysis using hand calculations and FEA (ANSYS preferred).
- Familiarity with MathCAD, MATLAB, or Maple is advantageous.
- Experience in solid mechanics, dynamics, and thermal-fluids systems is beneficial.
Security Clearance: This position requires access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is restricted from foreign nationals. Proof of U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
