About the Position

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated STEM Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our Research, Teaching, and User Services division, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing information literacy instruction, conducting strategic outreach, and developing collections that support the research and teaching needs of our STEM communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Outreach
    • Develop and deliver information literacy instruction sessions for STEM students and faculty
    • Conduct targeted outreach to fully integrate information literacy across STEM curricula
    • Collaborate with library staff, faculty, and students to support the research, teaching, and learning of STEM communities
  • Collection Development and Discovery
    • Develop online, print, and multi-format collections that reflect the short- and long-term research, teaching, and learning needs of our STEM communities
    • Communicate with disciplinary faculty to address content and format needs
  • Library and Professional Service
    • Participate in library-wide planning and assessment projects through service on committees, task forces, and special projects
    • Engage in networking and professional development through national, regional, and local organizations
Qualifications
  • Education and Training
    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program
  • Experience
    • None required
  • Competencies

    • Passion for teaching undergraduate and graduate students and for assessing student learning
    • Understanding of how data literacy and scholarly communications intersect with, complement, and extend information literacy concepts, practices, and dispositions
    • Adaptable, flexible, and proactive in dealing with evolving library and campus priorities
    • Interest in experimenting with new modes of instruction, assessment, and research support services
    • Knowledge of current academic library trends and issues in general and STEM information literacy approaches, frameworks, and pedagogy
    • Familiarity with the evolving nature of scholarly communications in STEM disciplines
    • Awareness of collection development trends in libraries and familiarity with managing and developing multi-format library collections
    • Dedication to providing responsive user-centered public services
    • Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work collaboratively as a team player
    • Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills, including capacity for working independently to set priorities
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
    • Exemplary emotional intelligence when working with colleagues and users
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Undergraduate or Graduate Work in a STEM Discipline
      • Relevant coursework or degree in a STEM field
    • Experience Supporting STEM Subjects in an Academic Library
      • Experience working in an academic library, particularly in a STEM-related role
    • Familiarity with Specialized Library Software and Applications
      • Familiarity with library software, applications, and platforms, such as Worldcat Discovery or Springshare
    Work Schedule and Benefits

The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule to work partial hours remotely as approved by the supervisor.

This position is represented by The Claremont Colleges Services Library Staff Federation AFT Local 6735. The employee in this position will be bound by the collective bargaining agreement.

The pay rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $5,666.67 - $6,083.33 per month.
