Job Overview

The HVAC Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the church facilities. This position involves performing advanced technical work related to the repair, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC systems, ensuring a comfortable environment for all church activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including both direct expansion and hydronic systems.
  • Implement and manage the Energy Management System (EMS) to enhance energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
  • Develop and modify software programs to balance energy management with occupant comfort, ensuring effective operation of HVAC systems.
  • Review and evaluate mechanical design plans for renovations or new constructions, providing necessary control sequences for HVAC installations.
  • Assist in drafting specifications for maintenance and new projects.
  • Oversee the work of external contractors to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain warranties and ensure all HVAC equipment is serviced according to preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Keep accurate records of service and repairs performed.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals, supplies, and parts necessary for HVAC operations.
  • Support other Facilities Management team members as needed.
Qualifications

Education: A technical or associate degree, military experience, or equivalent training is preferred.

Certifications:

  • EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • HVAC Excellence Certification
  • Secondary Heat and Heat Plus Certification
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certification
  • Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Accreditation (PHARA)

Experience:

  • A minimum of four years of experience as an HVAC technician in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with safe handling of hazardous materials and knowledge of electrical and environmental safety standards.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting skills for operational costs.
  • Analytical thinking and independent problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule, including potential weekend and holiday work as needed. The HVAC Systems Specialist must be available for on-call emergency situations and accommodate the scheduling needs of church events.
