Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Composite Mechanic to contribute to our vibrant workforce in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. The Composite Mechanic is responsible for conducting inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and installation of locomotive mechanical systems, air equipment, and electrical systems. This includes components such as diesel engines, motors, generators, wheels, air brakes, wiring, and lighting systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and operational standards set by the Federal Railroad Association (FRA) and the company.
  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance under the guidance of a supervisor, ensuring all systems operate within designated specifications.
  • Complete and maintain accurate inspection and repair documentation in accordance with company and FRA guidelines.
  • Conduct diagnostics, installation, and repair of locomotive components, ensuring compliance with federal and company specifications.
  • Interpret and apply technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins related to locomotive maintenance.
  • Test, install, and repair various system components, ensuring functionality and adherence to specifications.
  • Regularly assess and verify operational metrics, making adjustments or replacements as necessary.
  • Conduct qualifications of mechanical, electrical, and air control systems using specialized testing equipment.
  • Document non-compliance issues clearly and legibly.
  • Analyze and rectify faults associated with locomotive equipment maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance on company vehicles as needed.
  • Fulfill CDL requirements as per federal regulations.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with various repairs and maintenance tasks as required.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to prevent workplace accidents.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Maintain qualifications as per Department of Transportation standards.
  • Be prepared for non-standard work hours, including overtime and shift work.
  • Undertake other assigned duties and projects as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical fields, particularly with diesel engines.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of FRA, AAR, OSHA, and EPA regulations relevant to locomotive operations.
  • Strong integrity and accountability in professional conduct.
  • Basic computer skills are required.

Work Environment

The role may involve exposure to various weather conditions, loud noises, and mechanical hazards. Travel may be required to assist with repairs at different locations as needed.
