Job Title: Intake Worker

Location: Tucson Hospitality House

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Intake Worker to join our team at the Salvation Army. As an Intake Worker, you will be responsible for managing the general operations of the Intake area, providing information and referrals to clients, and ensuring the smooth transition of clients into our shelter program.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Intake area, including checking in clients, processing paperwork, and providing information and referrals as needed.
  • Monitor and supervise clients, investigating and reporting any incidents or activity as necessary.
  • Provide accurate and thorough written communication in the Incident Report Log Book for management and other staff review.
  • Gather statistical information from participant sign-up sheets, laundry, church, and client registration, and enter it into HMIS.
  • Complete HMIS Intake Assessment and V1-SPDAT packets for clients arriving during the overnight shift.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to client inquiries.
  • Conduct random breath analysis testing for clients entering the shelter and suspected of being intoxicated.
  • Manage the exit of clients in the morning, including baggage check-out, cell phone collection, medication collection, and other items checked in upon arrival.
  • Implement regular facility, dorm, and restroom checks, including exterior perimeter checks, to ensure security and safety.
  • Use proper radio procedures in conjunction with partnering staff on duty.
  • Provide clients with requested forms, such as grievance forms and laundry forms.
  • Provide hygiene items, such as shampoo, razors, and body wash, as needed.
  • Review shelter rules and policies with clients as necessary or when questions arise.
  • Take necessary precautions to prevent damage to the facility.
  • Interact with other agencies providing guidance and direction for special circumstances of clients, such as those arriving by police escort or released from the hospital.
  • Maintain safety and security of clients and staff, monitoring front doors and allowing access only to authorized persons.
  • Enforce all house rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensure the blanket distribution box remains supplied at the outside front door after hours.
  • Contact the Program Manager in the event of an emergency, following the chain of command contact list in the manager's absence.
  • Attend all staff meetings and relevant training seminars as directed.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with homeless populations.
  • Able to maintain a non-judgmental attitude and professional approach when working with clients.
  • Ability to use HMIS software program.
  • Computer literate in MS Office software.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Able to handle crisis/emergency situations or services for the homeless and utilize crisis intervention, crowd management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required. If not current, certification must be obtained.
  • Ability to assess at-risk participants and situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Successful background clearance.
