Government Affairs Internship at Meijer

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on government affairs topics and develop presentations for executive leadership
  • Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local government activity relevant to Meijer and the retail industry
  • Work with internal stakeholders to analyze business impacts and implications of government policies
  • Assist in developing policy agendas and implementing strategies to achieve policy goals
  • Collaborate with Meijer Communications to ensure consistent messaging and brand amplification
  • Draft advocacy communications to government officials
  • Attend committee hearings and meetings as needed
  • Develop relationships with elected officials and government staff
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a four-year college or university with a focus on Political Science, Pre-Law, or a related field
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
  • Independent thinker with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage ambiguity and try new things
  • Capable of building new relationships and possessing emotional intelligence
  • Comfort in a corporate environment and ability to interact with senior business executives
  • Passion for public policy and government affairs
  • Microsoft Office experience and willingness to learn additional technology skills
