POSITION SUMMARY:

The Financial Controller plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department. This position entails supervising the general operating systems and collaborating with the CEO to establish departmental goals and objectives. The Controller will bring a wealth of experience and operational oversight to the role.

Initially, the Controller will have a broad range of responsibilities, requiring adaptability as the team navigates various departmental functions. Candidates who prefer narrowly defined roles may find this position unsuitable. As the organization continues to grow and evolve, more specialized roles will emerge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial Management: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of accounting tools and systems, including General Ledger management.
  • Enhance the accuracy and efficiency of daily financial operations, including commissions, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, inventory, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee system operations and infrastructure, playing a pivotal role in system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with HR and IT management regarding payroll, benefits, and third-party services.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for timely year-end reviews and tax-related matters.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to mitigate risk.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
  • Develop comprehensive monthly operating reports for executive review.
  • Create weekly and monthly dashboards that encompass all financial, operational, sales, service, and marketing KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Lead budget development and related initiatives.
  • Process Improvement: Document key processes within the accounting department and promote collaboration with other departments to support company objectives.
  • Implement new procedures to enhance departmental workflow.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for staff as needed.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The Financial Controller will report directly to the CEO and will regularly interact with other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Accounting; CPA preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, primarily in manufacturing or distribution of consumer-packaged goods.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary range: $125,000 - $130,000
