Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Branch Controller in ensuring that proper financial procedures and policies are established and complied with to protect the company's assets.

The Financial Controller Assistant will oversee the preparation, supervision, and accuracy of various intricate and complex accounting functions, including preparing accounting studies and reports of an ongoing and nonrecurring nature.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist the Controller with financial reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Prepare and assist the Controller with the month-end closing process, including the creation of journal entries, analytical review, and schedules.
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned accounts, identifying and evaluating alternative means of accounting treatment.
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable process, including PO management, invoice review, and approvals.
  • Supervise Accounting Coordinators and ensure the integrity of data in the accounting system.
  • Perform fixed asset accounting, ensuring accurate site codes, cost centers, asset lives, and other relevant details.
  • Perform general ledger system maintenance and review inter-company billing and reconciliation.
  • Audit accounts payable transactions, verifying supporting documents, authorization levels, and appropriateness of sales tax.
  • Participate in audit testing and identify and report situations not in compliance with company internal controls.
  • Prepare and assist the Controller with variance analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and recommend process improvements.

Requirements

  • BS in Accounting or related discipline required.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in the hazardous waste industry or related work experience required.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of accounting standards and principles.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong customer orientation and ability to effectively present information.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to create and prepare reports as necessary.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
