Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the outpatient and inpatient settings. This role requires a strong foundation in nursing theory and practice, as well as expertise in the medical management of psychiatric illness and substance use disorders.
Responsibilities- Manage a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.
- Provide leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
- Oversee care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible.
- Assist the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed-upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education, and encouragement.
- Perform advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
- Provide expert consultation for clinical issues, promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.
- Participate in the education, clinical research, and mentoring of healthcare providers.
- Facilitate patient/family education in area of expertise.
- Annually complete mandatory safety, infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS.
- Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
- Masters of Science Degree, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Specialty certification in Psychiatric Mental Health required.
- Baccalaureate in Nursing.
- Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
General hospital and/or outpatient clinic environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
Independent ActionResponds to individual patient-care situations, demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education, certification, and work experience.
