JOB SUMMARY
The Physician Assistant in Intensivist Medicine is a certified healthcare professional who delivers direct patient care and holds delegated prescriptive authority. This role is recognized as an independent billing provider within the healthcare systems, compliant with Medicare and Medicaid regulations. The Advanced Practice Provider operates under the supervision of a physician, providing medical care as per the established scope of practice. The position involves working in a critical care environment, managing patients through various responsibilities including patient rounds, procedures, and hospital admissions and discharges.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Evaluates the physical and mental health of patients through comprehensive examinations and medical history assessments.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests to determine patient health needs.
- Prescribes and administers medical therapies and treatments in accordance with established protocols, ensuring safety and efficacy.
- Develops and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with healthcare team members.
- Provides counseling to patients and families regarding medical conditions, treatment options, and health promotion strategies.
- Maintains detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes, ensuring timely referrals when necessary.
- Offers specialized consultation services related to the provider's area of expertise.
- Performs specific invasive procedures as delegated by the supervising physician.
- May conduct hospital rounds, assist with patient admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support as needed.
- May be required to fulfill patient care responsibilities beyond the regular schedule based on departmental needs.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic and treatment methods for various medical conditions.
- Understanding of rehabilitation practices for physical and mental health issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to healthcare.
- Ability to create and implement effective patient treatment plans.
- Skill in counseling patients on medical and psychological conditions.
- Capability to interpret laboratory and diagnostic test results.
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nights only
- 7 on/14 off schedule
- 7 PM to 7 AM shifts
- No on-call duties

QUALIFICATIONS

- ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire
- BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
