About the Role
">This position is for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer to join our team at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail, maintaining order and discipline among inmates, and performing related duties as required.
">Key Responsibilities
">- Maintaining jail security and order by conducting regular patrols and monitoring inmate activity;
- Receiving and processing inmates into the custody of the institution, searching prisoners, and taking charge of personal property;
- Providing inmates with opportunities to call attorneys or relatives, advising them on institutional rules and regulations, and supervising their activities during meals, personal hygiene, and other daily routines;
- Transporting inmates to medical facilities, courts, and other locations as needed;
- Supervising inmates' physical condition, providing medication, and preparing routine records and reports;
- Investigating crimes and critical incidents, collecting evidence, making arrests, and testifying in court as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
">To be successful in this role, you will need:
">- A High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent;
- Some knowledge of security protocols, rules, and procedures, as well as modern penology practices related to the supervision and care of individuals under institutionalized restraint;
- The ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly, detect potential behavioral problems among inmates, and carry out oral and written instructions accurately;
- An understanding of the importance of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and community members;
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that require lifting, bending, standing, and walking, as well as the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

">- A starting salary of $40,699.66 per annum (bi-weekly pay of $1,565.37), which increases to $42,734.64 annually (bi-weekly pay of $1,643.64) upon completion of the Basic Jailer Course;
