Correctional Officer

About the Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Job Summary:

The Correctional Officer will be responsible for ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail. This is a full-time position that requires a high level of physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is $40,699.66 annually, with opportunities for raises based on experience. Additionally, employees of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities:

• Processing inmates into custody, searching prisoners, and taking charge of personal property
• Providing inmates with the opportunity to call their attorney or relatives and advising them on institutional rules and regulations
• Patrolling the jail area to ensure security and maintain order
• Transporting inmates to medical, court, and related facilities
• Supervising inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and other activities
• Escorting and safeguarding inmates to their cells and checking on their physical condition
• Receiving, counting, recording, and washing laundry in the jail
• Distributing personal and cell cleaning equipment and keeping a record of money received from inmates
• Dispensing medication to inmates as prescribed or directed
• Preparing routine records on inmates and performing general clerical duties
• Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of quarters
• Recording visits, inspecting items brought into the jail, and checking incoming and outgoing mail
• Investigating crimes and critical incidents, collecting evidence, making arrests, and testifying in court

Requirements:

• A High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent
• Citizenship of the United States
• No convictions of any crime that could result in imprisonment
• No convictions of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law
• No convictions of domestic violence offenses
• Good moral character as determined by the Applicant Screening Board and background investigation
• Physical fitness and ability to pass a background check
