Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Custodian Lead to join our team at Mounds View Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our school facilities, as well as supervising and coordinating the work of regular custodial staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general cleaning functions such as vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, and sweeping floors, including mixing various cleaning and maintenance chemicals.
  • Perform minor maintenance to keep schools and classrooms operational, such as repairing plumbing, heating, ventilation, and electrical equipment that does not require an outside contractor.
  • Secure buildings and test and reset fire alarms.
  • Set up equipment for sporting events, concerts, and other meetings or special events.
  • Check boilers, gauges, and pumps to ensure proper orientation, add oil to pumps or turn off pumps as necessary, and refer operational problems to the Supervisor of Maintenance.
  • Open or close buildings as necessary.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for safety.
  • Coordinate and assign tasks to regular custodial staff.
  • Distribute supplies for the kitchen, office, teachers, and departments.
  • Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks, chair glides, and other school equipment.
  • Conduct minor ground maintenance, including mowing, landscaping, snow removal, painting, raking, or similar tasks.
  • Supervise student workers in the performance of general cleaning tasks.
  • Set up equipment for sporting events, concerts, and other meetings or special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Must possess at least a Second Class Boiler license.
  • Ability to get along with district employees and be courteous and helpful with students and the general public.
  • Knowledge of requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in custodial work.
  • Ability to learn custodial procedures, methods, and schedules.
  • Ability to maintain classrooms, offices, and other school facilities in a clean, safe, and secure condition.
  • Ability to use common cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
  • Ability to observe and report safety hazards and the need for maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on furniture, equipment, and facilities.
  • Ability to confer with site administrators and supervisors regarding custodial needs, schedules, and concerns.
  • Knowledge of principles of administration, training, and supervision.
  • Ability to assign and review the work of others.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.

Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking 90% of the time. 50% of the time involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing stairs. 25% of the time involves: crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, twisting while lifting, sweeping, extended reaches of 20 pounds overhead, and lifting pounds with mechanical assistance.
