Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of the Suncoast. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of participants during recreational, fitness, and instructional swimming activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision and maintain high safety standards during swimming activities.
  • Role model all aspects of the YMCA's SMART pledge.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or violate the code of conduct.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the deck and locker rooms, and keep the deck clear of equipment.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, and engage in positive public relations with members.
  • Know all emergency procedures and be able to administer first aid.
  • Report for duty as scheduled, at least ten minutes before pool opening.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Upon hire, must complete Professional Rescue CPR or Basic Life Support, First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen Administration (O2) certification.
  • Must hold a current life guarding certification (Red Cross accepted, must cross-over to YMCA within 90 days or first available training).
  • Broad overview of the YMCA as it operates as a local, national, and international movement preferred.
Working Conditions

The Lifeguard will work in a fast-paced aquatic environment, requiring the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and to maintain physical endurance for 15-30 minutes of aerobic activity.
