Job OverviewPosition Summary

The Lead Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the decontamination, sterilization, storage, and limited distribution of medical supplies and equipment. This role involves the formulation of departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality benchmarks, and operational workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fosters and maintains positive relationships with patients, clients, and team members.
  • Exhibits progressive leadership and effective management by cultivating a robust team and promoting a culture of continuous learning.
  • Effectively allocates resources and manages the departmental budget.
  • Oversees the decontamination, sterilization, storage, and limited distribution of medical supplies and equipment, including the establishment of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manages the department's inventory control systems.
  • Collects, monitors, and maintains departmental statistics to ensure compliance with all accreditation, local, state, and federal regulations.

General Requirements

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all policies and standards.
  • For specific responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must comply with all regulations to securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, the University Hospitals Code of Conduct, and policies are in place to ensure appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in inventory management, sterile processing, instrument management, case cart preparation, and employee supervision with demonstrated leadership capabilities in a healthcare setting are required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiarity with AORN or AAMI, FDA, OSHA, and EPA regulations and guidelines is preferred.
  • Proficient in operating all equipment used in Central Sterile Processing (including case carts, steam & EtO sterilizers, washer/sterilizers, cart washers, sonic cleaners, computers, and surgical instruments).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) is required.
